WELCOME TO WYVERN AREA
Wyvern is named after the legendary winged two-footed dragon. A golden wyvern was the symbol of Wessex whose famous king Alfred was born within the Wyvern Area at Wantage.
The Arts Society, formerly the National Association of Decorative Fine Art Societies (NADFAS), is an organization with over 90,000 members in the British Isles, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Penang. It is an important influence within the arts world. Societies are independently structured under the The Arts Society umbrella and an Area is a segment of the national organisation representing the interests of the member socities in its area.
The Wyvern Area is one of 21 Arts Society areas in the UK. Its 11 member societies cover parts of Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire. The core activity of each Society is the provision of monthly lectures to its members. An interest in arts and their conservation brings us together and we maintain a high standard in all our activities to ensure that our societies are able to offer attractive events to our members.
Arts Society lecturers all have skills and knowledge within their particular subjects and come from a variety of backgrounds including universities, museums, galleries and art dealing. However The Arts Society is more than stimulating lectures, with study days, visits, holidays, and volunteering activities, such as Church Recording, Church Trails, Heritage Volunteers and Young Arts, included within its programme. Society membership is for those with artistic interests of all ages, and is an excellent way to meet and make friends with those with similar interests.
